This week’s 5 most important social media changes

What’s changed in the last seven days? What does it mean?

Facebook release 360-degree video tours, Twitter updates Moments & analytics tools, Facebook gives users ad controls and Pinterest integrates video search.

Let’s take a look at these changes in more detail.

Facebook now has 360-degree ‘guided tour’ videos

Facebook is looking to make 360-degree video content more immersive and easier to navigate. A recently released ‘guide’ feature, launched alongside an update to publisher tools, allows users to highlight a specific part of video content before posting it. The larger update included increased data on video content interactions. The guide feature will help users view parts deemed more interesting by the publisher. Anyone posting a 360-degree video will be able to identify areas of the clip they want to highlight when they’ve been enabled.

Twitter will soon let everyone post Moments

When it was launched, Moments was curated by Twitter themselves, and a hand-picked group of publishers. Facebook gives users more control over ads

Facebook have taken complaints and feedback regarding advertisements on their platform and made a move to give users more control. With this in mind, Facebook have created tools that let uses customise their ad experience. They will also give users the ability to remove advertisements from businesses that have them added to contact lists. The changes have been made in an attempt to have end-users served ad content that won’t irritate them while also remaining relevant to their interests.

Pinterest will integrate video into visual search tools

Pinterest has started building a native video player and will be updating visual search tools to work with video content. The update may change the way users interact with pins and the types of content that end up on the platform. The video search tool will look to scan videos to assist with categorising them and make them easily discoverable. How this will end up come public launch is yet to be seen.
