This week’s 5 most important social media changes
What’s changed in the last seven days? What does it mean?
Facebook implements some major updates to Live and livestreaming functions, Adwords updates Shopping, Google makes changes to their search quality rating guidelines and Twitter is making it easier to share private tweets.
Let’s take a look at these changes in more detail.
Facebook adds a dedicated video tab as part of a major redesign for live-streaming
Facebook has begun to roll out a dedicated tab for finding live and archived videos. It’s now the centre tab in the app, replacing Messenger. The tab also includes different sections for broadcasts by your friends as well as others from around the world and pages you follow. Videos can also be found using a topic search. There’s also talk that Facebook will be signing deals with publishers to produce a certain number of live videos each month, although there is not currently support for ads.

Google makes AdWords Products tab more useful for Shopping campaigns
Managers can now find ‘Product status’ and ‘Effective max CPC’ columns in the Products tab in Google AdWords. The Products status column lets you know if a specific product is ready to serve, disapproved, excluded or out of stock. Google has also added more Shopping info in AdWords Report Editor. You can now see attributes like brand or product type for Shopping campaigns and build charts and tables for reporting.

Facebook Live now streams to Groups and Events, gets Reactions, filters, and more
Rolling out over the coming weeks are the ability to broadcast live videos to Facebook Groups and Events, the addition of Reactions and filters, and a new dedicated destination that highlights livestreams taking place throughout the world. With this update Facebook aims to have friends, family or fans be there with you for every moment and users can respond to comments and see reactions.

Google updates the search quality rating guidelines
Google has recently updated their search quality raters guidelines. Changes include a de-emphasis of supplementary content, emphasis on local, which Google has renamed ‘Visit-in-Person’ and more emphasis on the role of ‘Your Money Your Life’ and ‘Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness’. Also mobile is still very important with more searches coming from mobile devices than desktop.

New Twitter message button lets you privately share tweets on iOS and Android
Twitter has introduced a new feature that allows users to integrate tweets into direct messages directly from the timeline. Tapping a new icon at the bottom of a tweet (in the shape of an envelope) allows you to send a selected tweet to a friend or follower within a DM. This comes as the Twitter reports the use of the messaging feature grew by 60 percent last year.
