This week’s 5 most important social media changes
What’s changed in the last seven days? What does it mean?
Earn money on Periscope, create custom Snapchat geofilters, YouTube releases new VR format, Facebook to update video features & Pinterest increases security.
Let’s take a look at these changes in more detail.
Earn cash on Periscope with Super Hearts
Users can now support live broadcasts with purchased likes in the form of Super Hearts. They can be identified on streams as larger and more colourful versions of original icons and can be accessed through a new icon in the dashboard. Sending a Super Heart to a user of a live stream will send them a cash value, which they can withdraw to spend elsewhere.

YouTube launches new VR video format
YouTube launched a new virtual reality 180-degree video format called VR180, which focuses what is in front of the user in high resolution. It can be viewed with Daydream, PSVR and Cardboard in seamless VR and in 3D and it supports live-streaming videos joining fans with creators in real time.

Create custom geofilters directly in Snapchat
Snapchat has released a new way for users to create custom geofilters and submit them for events directly through the app. The update makes it much easier for users to utilise geofilters, replacing the old method of submitting content through the on-demand geofilters website using a template.

During the recent VidCon, Facebook announced a new app under development designed for video content creators. It includes exclusive tools in Facebook Live giving users the ability to add intro and outros and design custom frames and stickers to use during live streaming. There will also be access to increased analytical data to reveal more about audiences. The app is expected to release later this year.
